Participate in UCB Dementia Safety Research Study

July 18, 2016

Dear Prospective Participant in UC Berkeley’s Dementia Safety Research Study,

We are currently seeking individuals caring for a loved one with Alzheimer’s disease or related dementia to participate in a pilot study aimed at reducing caregiver burden.

You may be eligible to participate if someone close to you:

is 45 - 95 years old

lives in the San Francisco Bay Area or near UC Davis

has been diagnosed with Alzheimer’s or a related dementia

you believe is a high fall risk

What will participants be asked to do?

Allow small cameras and wireless sensors to be placed in the residence for three months to collect data to test how well software can detect:

when the individual with dementia has left the residence alone,

when an individual has fallen down,

when the sink or bath is overflowing,

when the stove has been left on unattended.

You will be granted secure, 24/7 access to the streaming video via your smart phone and computer. You will have final say on what data is kept for the study. If you have any questions or are interested in participating, please contact: George Netscher or Lynn Noyce at 510-423-3639 or Dementia.Tech.2015@gmail.com

Best regards,
