“Telling It Like It Wasn’t: An Interdisciplinary Look at Historical Counterfactual Speculation.” 
Professor Emerita Gallagher will trace the history of what is often called “What if?” historical thinking from its eighteenth-century roots in religious debates, moral philosophy, and military sciences to its later and present-day applications in economic, diplomatic, and political history as well as international relations, literature, and post-Cold-War historical justice movements.
