Message to Prospective Retirees

Planning on retiring from the Office of the President or Office of the Secretary and Chief of Staff to the Regents?

Shortly before you retire is a good time to connect with PARRA to receive communications about PARRA activities and events. To connect with PARRA, provide a post-University employment email address.

There are many great reasons to be an active PARRA member upon your retirement:

  • Stay Informed about issues important to retirees

PARRA provides information throughout the year about benefits, health care, and activities that are of particular interest to retirees.

  • Connect with like-minded people

By connecting with PARRA, you’ll meet others who share your passion for public service, education, diversity, and other UC values.

  • Build your social network

Retirement is a huge life transition, and it can be hard to lose the social connections and support we’re used to having at work. PARRA provides an opportunity to continue existing and establish new connections through social and volunteering events.

  • Get exclusive access to fascinating speakers

Each spring and fall, PARRA hosts a member luncheon that features interesting and noted speakers. Past events have featured UC President Drake and Dean Erwin Chemerinsky of Berkeley Law, among others.

  • Continue learning

Members also have access to resources through the Berkeley Retirement Center. This includes the Learning in Retirement Program, which provides access to free online courses in the natural sciences, social sciences, humanities, arts, and other fields.

  • Give back

PARRA hosts volunteer opportunities within the Bay Area throughout the year, such as at the Food Bank of Contra Costa and Solano and the Alameda County Community Food Bank.
